Subject: Kinergy GT H436 Product Service Bulletin

Dear Hankook Tire Customer,

           Hankook Tire America Corporation (Hankook) is attempting to obtain certain passenger tires manufactured between June 30, 2017, and July 1, 2017, back from any customers that currently possess them. The specific tires are Kinergy GT H436 195/65R15H and identified by a single DOT number: 5M DH 1BH 2617.
REASONS FOR THIS BULLETIN

            A small batch of passenger tires produced as samples for testing were prematurely released from the warehouse and sold to certain limited number of tire dealers. By the time the tires at issue were released into the market, Hankook had already performed the required Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) endurance tests and/or its internal endurance tests under stricter conditions than what is required under the FMVSS regulations to verify its endurance characteristics. Although Hankook has confirmed these sample tires passed the applicable safety standards and have no safety risk, the tires did not complete all the testing protocols as dictated by Hankook’s internal protocols and controls. Because of the company’s commitment to going above and beyond regulations in order to best serve its customers, Hankook has decided to exchange the tires to ensure that all tires that reach end consumers have properly gone through its established internal procedures and processes. Please note that this is not a federally mandated tire recall; rather, it is a voluntary exchange.

            The affected tires were produced in between June 30, 2017 and July 1, 2017. The U.S. Department of Transportation (“DOT”) identification number of the affected tires is 5M DH 1BH 2617. The DOT number can be found on the tread near the bead, as shown below.

WHAT HANKOOK WILL DO

            In the event that your tire(s) has the DOT number listed above, we will either exchange the tire(s) or pay or credit you the cost of the tire(s). We will extend this payment or credit service until October 31, 2018. This remedy will be provided to you if presented on or before October 31, 2018. From November 1, 2018, cost of the tires will be paid or credited based upon the remaining unused tread depth of the tire. For example, if the tire that is being presented is 45% worn, you will receive a payment or credit equal to 55% of the cost of the tire.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

            Examine your tires (see photo above) and determine if the model and DOT number match, which is the Kinergy GT H436 195/65R15H with DOT number 5M DH 1BH 2617. If you have one or more tires that match, bring them to a Hankook Dealer. Any consumer who believes they are affected by this bulletin should follow the instructions above.
