- Large Auto Bild test to compare summer tires identifies 20 finalists based on combined wet and dry braking distance

Neu-Isenburg, Germany, February 21, 2023 –Global leading tire company Hankook Tire’s Ventus S1 evo 3 has taken first place in the first part of the 2023 summer tire test carried out by Europe’s largest automobile magazine, Auto Bild. The trade magazine selected 50 different ultra-high performance (UHP) summer tire brands with 225/45 R 18 tire sizes and speed index Y (up to 300 km/h) to find the best ones for the upcoming summer season. Only the top 20 performers in terms of braking performance on wet and dry roads will be able to look forward to a position on the starting grid for the second round of testing.

Auto Bild considers that the combined wet/dry braking distance is the most critical safety factor when recommending tires for purchase. With an excellent dry braking distance from 100 km/h of 33.3 meters, and a wet braking distance from 80 km/h of just 24.8 meters, the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 came out top compared to all other brands in this category, which has specific implications when it comes to safety.

The 20 best tires in the braking distance test will now compete against each other in other tests such as handling, aquaplaning and mileage. The differences in the Auto Bild brake test are significant, with the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 coming to a stop within 15.5 meters – or three car lengths - sooner than other brands on wet roads.

Hankook Tire sees the results of the Auto Bild brake test as evidence of the company’s expertise and use of high-quality materials, such as those used in the Ventus S1 evo 3, are valuable to consumers. After all, in extreme cases, they help to prevent accidents.
