IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NHTSA Recall No. 24T-007
2024-07-18
Dear Hankook Tire Customer,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Hankook Tire America Corporation (Hankook Tire) has decided certain Hankook brand Passenger tires fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 574, "Tire Identification & Recordkeeping." The specific tires are the Kinergy GT H436 235/60R18H manufactured between January 17, 2024, and February 28, 2024. The recalled tires were installed as Original Equipment on 2024 Honda CR-V vehicles where the Tire Identification Number (TIN) was missing the required date code (week and year code).
On July 2, American Honda filed a corresponding recall notice for the vehicles potentially affected by this issue, NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V-508.
Please read this notice carefully and follow the steps outlined in the instructions below.
REASONS FOR THIS RECALL
A small batch of passenger tires produced as Original Equipment tires for 2024 Honda CR-V contain a tire identification number (TIN) that is missing the 4-digit week and year code mark. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 574, "Tire Identification & Recordkeeping."
TIRE INFORMATION
The affected tires were produced between January 17, 2024, and February 28, 2024. The U.S. Department of Transportation (“DOT”) identification number of the affected tires is 00T 3V 1B H0 0324 - 0924. The DOT number can be found on the sidewall near the bead, as shown below. The week and year production date code is a four digit number found at the end of the DOT on just one side of the tire, the first two digits representing the week of production, and the last two digits representing the year of production. An example, code 0924 would indicate the 9th week of year 2024 as the production date.
It is important to note that in regular production, tire DOT identification numbers are printed in full on only one side of passenger car tires. On the opposite side, the DOT is printed partially, with the week and year production date code absent. This is intentional and standard for the passenger car tire market in North America. The tires affected by this recall will be missing the week and year production date code from both sides of the tire, increasing the risk of a crash.
