Hankook Tire (www.hankooktire.com, CEO Cho Choong-hwan) revealed on the 24th that it received the ‘Gold Award’ from Ford Motor Company at the 2005 World Excellence Awards.

The World Excellence Awards are presented to Ford’s production and non-production suppliers who showed exemplary performance in the previous year in terms of quality, delivery, service and price. Hankook Tire was the only tire supplier to be recognized in 2005 among Ford’s 150 suppliers from 17 countries. The highest honor, the Gold Award, was also given to 12 other parts suppliers including BASF (Germany), AK Steel Corporation (US) and Harada (Japan).

"Our World Excellence Award-winning suppliers are integral in our ability to address the needs of our customers today and tomorrow," said Tony (Thomas K.) Brown, senior vice president of Global Purchasing at Ford. "We are grateful for their ceaseless concentration on delivering value." Ford group vice president and chief technology officer Richard Parry-Jones said Ford and its suppliers share a vision and strive for many of the same goals. "You come from all over the world, speak many different languages and represent many different cultures. But you share this in common -- you are all a most valued part of the extended Ford family," Parry-Jones said.

Hankook Tire Director of Overseas OE Lee Ki-woong, who attended the award ceremony, said, “Our Gold Award confirms Hankook Tire’s high quality products, reliable delivery and price competitiveness. The honor also signifies our strengthened position as a global partner to Ford.” In regards to Hankook Tire being the only tire manufacturer to receive the prestigious award, Lee said, “We expect the recognition to further solidify our partnership with Ford and positively influence our efforts to sign new supply contracts with other global car makers.”

Last December, Hankook Tire was named by Ford as an early adopter of its new “Aligned Business Framework,” designed to increase future collaboration in sourcing contracts. Hankook currently supplies USD 70 million worth of tires annually for representative Ford models including the F-150, Fiesta and Focus.

The 8th annual World Excellence Awards ceremony took place on May 3rd at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. More than 150 of Ford's largest production and non-production suppliers from 17 countries attended the event. There are three types of World Excellence Awards - Gold, Silver and Recognition of Achievement. The Gold and Silver Awards are given to suppliers that excel in quality, cost and delivery; 13 Gold Awards and 32 Silver Awards were presented to 60 recognized companies.
